Oregon’s Excellent Year

Jennifer Polanz

The nursery industry in Oregon experienced its second-best sales year on record in 2017, which made nursery and greenhouse crops that state’s top agricultural commodity, says the Oregon Association of Nurseries. What was the best year on record? It was 2007, right before the recession hit, when sales were at $1.039 billion. In 2017, sales topped $947.7 million, which put it far ahead of cattle and calves at $695 million.

“The Oregon nursery industry is feeling momentum with eight consecutive years of sales growth and we’re excited about sharing what Oregon has to offer with visitors from all over the country,” says Allan Niemi, director of the Farwest trade show (the release came out right before the show in August). Oregon is third in the nation when it comes to nursery sales, behind California and Florida. GP
