Empress of China Dogwood Named Georgia Gold Medal Plant

Jennifer Polanz
Article ImageThe Empress of China Dogwood from the Southern Living Plant Collection was named a Georgia Gold Medal Plant winner for 2015. Winners were chosen from five categories: natives, annuals, trees, shrubs, and vines and groundcovers. Empress of China dogwood is an evergreen tree that works well as an accent plant in the landscape. It adds year-round interest, but it dazzles with hundreds of creamy white blooms in early summer. It reaches 15 to 18 ft. high and 13 to 15 ft. wide at maturity, thriving in full to partial shade and hardy to USDA Zone 6. GP
