Control Solutions to Buy Bonide

Jennifer Polanz

Texas-based Control Solutions Inc. (CSI), which trades in multiple markets, made the move to buy Bonide Products Inc. in late October. The deal isn’t finalized yet, but pending all the final approvals, the acquisition would give CSI a share of the Home & Garden market, adding to its presence in the Pest Control, Turf & Ornamental and Professional Animal Health Care markets. The deal also gives Bonide “dramatically increased access to base chemistries that will allow new product development for its core IGC market,” according to the Bonide press release.

Bonide Products has been family owned for multiple generations since it was founded in 1926 and has provided high-quality pest controls and solutions for consumers. When I reached out to Bonide President and CEO Jim Wurz, he said he’s not able to talk about the details yet until everything is finalized, but he could confirm that Bonide should remain a standalone company and that they expect all people, facilities and brands to carry on. He did make this statement in the media release: “This has been a union in the making for many years—two companies with similar culture and highly complementary businesses. We are excited about the vast potential positive impact on employees, customers and the marketplace in general.”

The President and CEO of CSI Mark Boyd concurred. “We are delighted to welcome Bonide into the CSI family. Over the last nine decades, the Wurz family has built one of the most respected names in pest control solutions for the Home & Garden market,” he says in the media release. “We are committed to continuing to nurture and enhance this unique brand by adding new and differentiated products to the Bonide portfolio, bringing a new range of solutions to the U.S. consumer.” GP
