This month, I present Millie, the bestest dog from the northern part of Michigan (if you hold up your left hand palm facing away, she lives right at the tip of your pinkie finger).

“Millie is our 5-year-old GSP (German Shorthair Pointer) employed as Pest Management,” wrote Betsy Ernst of Peninsula Perennials Nursery, a grower-retailer that’s open to the public April-October. “She keeps the voles and chipmunks out of the perennials, along with scooting the deer out of the arborvitae field.

“She is taking a rest after a busy morning. We are a small, 30-acre nursery on the Tip of the Leelanau Peninsula in Michigan.”
