Cool New Plant Alert

We wrote about these when they made their debut back in 2024 at Cultivate, but trees don’t get enough coverage and these trees are especially appealing for retail. Called Fruit Snacks, this line of columnar apple trees from Plants Nouveau tick a lot of consumer boxes: They produce fresh fruit (wellness!), they max out between 8- to 10-ft. tall and 2- to 3-ft. wide, making them great for small spaces and even patio containers, and you need two different varieties for pollination. Hardy to USDA Zones 4b to 8, there are six varieties, and they range from sweet for snacking to tart for baking. Check them out at plantsnouveau.com. GP
