Gardening author Teresa Speight was recently honored by the Garden Communicators International group when her 2024 book “Black Flora: Inspiring Profiles of Floriculture’s New Vanguard” won a 2025 Gold Laurel Media Award. Published by Timber Press, her book is the first to feature profiles of contemporary Black experts innovating in the world of flowers. There are stories of 25 flower farmers, floral designers and small-scale growers across the United States, accented with beautiful photography.

“This book celebrates the fact that when we embrace the beauty that surrounds us, each of us can bloom in our own way,” said Teresa. “We’re passionate about our vision and bring a unique style and attitude to the world of floriculture. This book is filled with joy and inspiration.” GP
