Scent-Forward Gardens

Jennifer Polanz
Article ImageEditor’s Note: For the next couple of months, with the help of the National Garden Bureau, we’ll be taking a look at niche garden options.

If there are downsides to some of the new genetics out there (and there are very few), the lack of scent may be one. If you’ve ever leaned down to take a sniff of a bloom and come back up disappointed, then take a look at the niche option of Scent-sational Garden. These options include shrubs and perennials, and, remember, scent doesn’t just come from blooms, but also from foliage. Plant suggestions include:
  • Brindabella Roses Crimson Knight
  • Parfuma Earth Angel Rose
  • Variegated Winter Daphne
  • Bloomerang Dwarf Pink Lilac
  • Scent First Compact Raspberry Surprise Dianthus
  • Thumbelina Leigh English Lavender
